Story shared: My First Motorcycle Ride

When I think of Alvin, I think of Miss Mary and all of his sisters. But the main thing I remember about Alvin is that he took me on motorcycle rides when I was a little girl. Oh, how I loved to ride with him. I thought I was a big girl when I rode with him!! To this day, I still love riding on the back of a motorcycle. Sleep in Peace, Alvin and thanks for the memories!

My Dearest Alvin, This morning I added your name to the family record of deaths in my bible. There you were with Mama and Lois. I was soon overtaken by so many memories...looking out the window as you left for Vietnam, receiving the keys to the "Orange Airplane" so I could go shopping in St. Louis (I couldn't get over that you trusted me with it), getting my first diamond necklace you bought while overseas, your walking me down the aisle at my wedding, your visits to Virginia Beach. And oh that magic you worked on a grill! I always thought you would make a great chef in your second career. My heart is so heavy because I am not there in person. However, I honor your memory just as I would if there and my soul is on its knees today in a silent tribute to you. May The Lord bless you and keep you until we meet again... Alvin met no strangers. He had an effervescent, fun-loving personality. He was an avid reader, liked to travel. More times than not, he was the life of the party, and he did love to party. We shared so many experiences growing up and through our children. He was generous with his advice and his resources. He helped out many times when I was in college; he helped with my too many moves. I remember his first new car, which he dubbed the "airplane". It was an orange Gran Prix. It was the talk of the neighborhood. It amazed me how he could connect with others. Everyone in the Fairview Hts. Schnucks store knew him by name. All of my lifelong friends considered him as their big brother. He was a master grill master, even grilling in the snow. He made the best omelets that I had ever tasted. I could go on and on about my big brother. In my heart, he left too soon, and I was not ready to let him go. But the great memories that I have will be burned in my heart and soul forever. Big brother, I love you. It is not goodbye, but hasta la vista--until I see you again.
